Two North East based children’s charities have benefited from donations totalling £12,000 from the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility (HCSM).
David Harrison founded HCSM in 2017 to help young people and charities based in the North East of England. Over £150,000 has been handed out since the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility was launched.
The latest beneficiary includes the Sick Children’s Trust, with £8,000 donated to help the charity purchase new equipment, including washing and drying machines, at Scott House. The Sick Children’s Trust aims to help every family with a seriously ill child in hospital to be able to stay together, just minutes from their child’s bed during their treatment. They provide a free, high-quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, to families with sick children in hospital in the UK.
In addition to this, the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility donated £4,000 to Heel & Toe Children’s Charity, which specialises in supporting children with Cerebral Palsy & Other Physical Disabilities. Part of the donation will go towards their new hydrotherapy centre, with the rest going towards hosting a fundraising event, which aims to raise £40,000.
“Like many charities, we receive no government funding, so rely on support from local businesses, trusts and foundations, to continue providing life-changing therapies to children with disabilities across the North East.” The Charity said. “With the addition of our new hydrotherapy centre, we are proud to say we now provide free and subsidised therapies to 160 children every week.”
David Harrison added: “The Harrison Centre for Social Mobility has always been about giving people an opportunity to be at their best, with practical support. It has been especially rewarding to work with some of the region’s unsung heroes who do a great job by improving people’s life chances. I am delighted that we can support both the Sick Children’s Trust as well as Heel and Toe to enable them to continue their important work.”
