The World Transplant Games are coming to Newcastle and Gateshead! This thrilling sporting occasion will see athletes competing in events ranging from athletics to football, with an action-packed week kicking off with the opening ceremony at Northumbria University’s Sport Central on Saturday 17th August.
Over 3,000 athletes, from over 60 countries, will be taking in the part in the games. What makes these athletes so special is they are recipients of transplants, or living donors. The event aims to celebrate successful transplant surgeries and raise public awareness on the need for organ donors. Previous games have been held in Spain, Argentina and South Africa.
At True Potential, we’re honoured to be sponsoring the World Transplant Games. The biggest events will take place at the Gateshead International Stadium, including athletics and football.
The World Transplant Games offer a level playing field for all, with talent and potential offered the ability to flourish through sport. The principle of a level playing field is one shared by True Potential and is evident in our support for the Social Mobility Pledge.
With the Games held in our home city, we felt it was a perfect opportunity to get involved in an amazing event and support a cause that shares so many of our values. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to reach their potential. That’s why we created the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility and set up the Social Mobility Pledge last year. Sponsoring the World Transplant Games is the next stage in our commitment to spread opportunities more widely.
